Key Problem
The CDC reported that in 2018, nearly 1 in 5 adults 20+ years old have some special diet, and that number has only risen since. People with special diets often have doubts on if they can trust a restaurant for giving them food that is safe for themselves. People without such dietary limits do not have to face these experiences.
Key Business Implications
Commonplace is an app that allows individuals with special diets (allergies, dietary restrictions, etc.) to look-up and find restaurants that they feel confident eating at. This gives them a competitive advantage as there is no other company that does this for multiple diets.
Solutions
Focus on User Needs
Create an app that incorporates a unique opportunity for people with special diets
Visual Design
Used warm colors and rounded corners to give confidence and comfort to users
Crowdsourcing
Crowdsourcing allows users to hear directly from people with similar unique diets
Tailored On-boarding Process
Impact
Increased Confidence for Users
Qualitative data showed that users felt they could make a more informed decision about how accommodating restaurants are
75% Reduction in Steps
User interviews and usability testing showed that users no longer felt the need to use multiple websites to select a restaurant
